Ian Marchant, Chairman of the Wood Group, has welcomed the opportunity he will have to pass on lessons he has learnt to current and future business leaders later this month. The former CEO of SSE plc is the keynote speaker at the Institute of Directors ‘Sharing the Secrets of Success’ Leadership Masterclass in Aberdeen on Thursday, September 17.
Speaking about his involvement with the event, Ian Marchant says:
“Leadership is a craft learned through experience and practice. I am looking forward to sharing with delegates some of the lessons I have learned from more than twenty years in leadership positions in some of Scotland's largest companies.”
“I am continuing to learn today and I appreciate the chance to share with emerging leaders some of my experiences so that others can learn from my trials and tribulations. There are no magic secrets but there are hints and tips that can help and this is what I will be sharing.”
Delegates at the event will have the opportunity to attend their choice of two masterclasses hosted by five eminent business leaders. One of the hosts is George Yule of Aberdeen Football Club, who explains his enthusiasm for the event:
“I am delighted to be have been invited to take part and look forward to putting something back into the development of business leadership in this area. Experience does not have shortcuts. So to gain an insight from those who've ‘been there, done it’ is invaluable.
“Coming from and having lived all my life in this area I have seen and learned from the leadership and entrepreneurial drive of my colleagues in the business community. It is this flair that rose to the challenges of the oil and gas sector both domestically and internationally.
“Sharing the Secrets of Success is an excellent initiative on the part of the Institute of Directors, to develop and encourage the leadership skills of the current and next generation of business entrepreneurs.”
