Flybe Aberdeen to London City flights

Commenting on the news David Watt, executive director of IoD Scotland, said:

“We are delighted to hear that Flybe will take over the Aberdeen to London City route from October 27. This is a vital link between the two most vibrant economic centres in the UK.

“Flights into central London direct from Aberdeen International Airport are particularly important to the oil and gas industry. Efficient connections between operational headquarters in the Aberdeen area and corporate and financial centres in central London are absolutely essential to the industry.”

IoD Scotland Executive Director David Watt last week wrote to Keith Williams, executive chairman of British Airways, asking if British Airways would revue the decision to cease London City Airport flights from Aberdeen, or enable another operator to take over the service.

In his letter, Mr Watt said:

“Good air links were one of the reasons the oil and gas industry located in Aberdeen and they remain critical to its continued success.

“Air routes are key to the economy and our economic hubs like Aberdeen must have links to cities like London and beyond”
