Commenting on the election of the new members, Mike Bowyer, Chairman of IoD Aberdeen, said:
“To be sure we are reflecting the interests of our members in the Aberdeen area, the IoD Aberdeen committee is keen to strengthen representation of particular sectors of the local economy.
“Karen Arthur will bring her understanding of the Third Sector, which is so vital to the local economy. John Michie adds a particular knowledge of the retail industry along with his comprehensive understanding of the commercial sector in Aberdeen city centre.
“The oil and gas industry is our major sector and, with Barbara Lloyd, Mike Straughen and Nigel Taylor, we have three new committee members from different operational areas within this sector.
“I am looking forward to working with them and the existing committee members, to increase the understanding of the role that company directors play in the local economy and to highlighting some of the issues that our members feel are impacting on their businesses.”
IoD Aberdeen organises a programme of local events throughout the year.
The next IoD Aberdeen event is the ‘Stick or Twist’ Referendum Debate at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Thursday, June 19. Organised in conjunction with Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, Aberdeen Entrepreneurs, the Federation of Small Businesses and the SCDI, the debate speakers are John Swinney and Danny Alexander.
IoD Aberdeen is one of six IoD Scotland branches which also cover Edinburgh, Glasgow, Fife, Tayside and the Highlands and Islands.
